Military Records in Family Tree Research

With Remembrance Sunday just passed yesterday, I guess many of you may have turned your minds, like I did, to where can we find our ancestors who fought in the wars and conflicts that have taken place.

North American Family History

Family History Information Scanned So That We Can Research Our Family Trees

Ever wondered how a website like findmypast.co.uk goes about scanning the information for us family historians to use before they put up online?

More Devon Parish Registers On-line!

One of the biggest problems for me is that the number of Parish Registers on-line does not seem to be as great as for many other English counties. So here is some good news that I recently found on a trawl of the news sites..

Over 360,000 Devon baptism records have been published on the FindMyPast web site

Ancestry.co.uk publishes prison ‘hulks’ records online.

As well as featuring murderers, thieves and bigamists, the records also reveal examples of rough justice. Several eight-year-old boys were imprisoned on the hulks, as was 84-year-old William Davies, who was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for sheep stealing and later died on board the hulk HMS Justitia.

England and Wales Wills on-line

The look up site Ancestry.co.uk has put online the England and Wales National Probate Calendar from 1861-1941. Its an index to more than six million wills proven across the 19th and 20th centuries.

Findmypast.co.uk Adds Remaining Missing Pieces of the 1901 Census

Great news if you haven’t been able to track down your ancestor in the 1901 UK Census before now. The final missing pieces of the 1901 census have now been added to the family history website: findmypast.co.uk

The input these kind folk have given me has often boosted my research and propelled me so much further forward in the quest to build my tree.
